Adults Can Help

Making a Difference - Doing your Bit:

We are always looking for parents to make a contribution, Scouting is a community organization we are totally dependant on a strong community spirit to get stuff done.

" I would help but I'm just so busy"   Yes, we're all busy, its about where your priorities lie and what you believe in. Scouts is a values led organization, we believe in investing in children and their future, Scouting only exists because of the sacrafices that volunteers make of their own free time.

If you aren't contributing - you're just taking.

Many people would like to lend a hand but there are a number of boundaries they find hard to cross:

How do they deal wth other peoples kids?

What are the expectations?

Do they have the skills?

Will they be held to some long-term commitment that is more than what they intended?

Theses are all valid concerns, Scouting has changed since many parents were involved as youngsters themselves, expectations hve changed, but the central principles remain the same, strong values and building skills for life. Everyone has something to offer:

One off events:  Helping out at our yearly Bonfire burger stall, or sellling programmes for the bed race.

Using skills:  Helping to maintain the hut prehaps as a tradesman or helping in the garden or store room.

Sharing skills: Talking to the group about your profession or interests.

Specific Roles

Occasional Helper: as a regular helper or you could arrange to help out once a month. There is no uniform requirement but you will need a DBS check.

As an Assisstant Leader: If you realy get the bug, then a uniform role is a great way to make a big difference. We can provide the necessary DBS checks and trainning to give you the confidence to fulfill your potential.

Committee Position: You may not feel at home dealing with kids but still want to contribute, the committee positions provide a way to help drive the group forward, provide strong management and oversite of procedures.

Speak to the section leader, GSL or fill -in the info request here.
